Great River Organic Milling uses old fashioned stone wheels to grind their
grains. Conventional millers today use steel grinding mills, and they “temper”
grain before grinding it by soaking the grain in water so they can “pull” the
bran layer apart and take out the germ and endosperm. This produces a white
flour that has a long shelf life. Great River Organic Milling, on the other
hand, is one of the few granite stone millers left in America. They use a slower
process with less heat involved, and nothing is removed from the grain. All the
nutritional components of the grain go back into the bag. These breakfast mixes
are ground to order in Wisconsin especially for Tropical Traditions.

Buckwheat Buttermilk Pancake Mix
A traditional, hearty pancake
5 lbs.
Ingredients:
organic buckwheat, organic soft wheat, organic buttermilk
powder, aluminum-free baking powder, sea saltTo Prepare:
for six four-inch pancakes, add one beaten egg to 3/4 cup water.
Pour into 1 cup of mix; stir lightly. Cook on a hot, lightly greased
griddle. |
Multi-Grain Hot Cereal
100% organic stone ground grains
5 lbs.
Ingredients:
organic corn, organic rice, organic rye, organic wheat, organic
oats, organic barleyTo Prepare: (1-2 servings) Sprinkle
1/2 cup of cereal into 1 1/2 cups boiling water. Stir as it returns
to a boil. Cover and simmer 7-10 minutes. |
ORGANIC THICK ROLLED OATS
Oats provide high quality, well-balanced
protein. Thick Rolled Oats and other whole
grain oats are a good source of soluble
fiber. Tropical Traditions Thick Rolled Oats
are most commonly used for oatmeal, and cook
in about 15 minutes. Thick Rolled Oats can
also be used in granola and of course
oatmeal cookies.
