Organically grown sesame seeds, roasted and ground with sea salt and three mineral rich sea vegetables, dulse, nori, and komub. A delicious nutty flavor condiment in a convenient, easy to use shaker. The oil of the seeds coats the sea salt amplifying and carrying its flavor so you experience more flavor. A great way to eat beneficial sea vegetables.

Seaweed Gomasio (Sesame Salt) is made of a combination of whole and hulled organically grown sesame seeds, lightly roasted and ground with our finest sea salt and the mineral rich sea vegetables: dulse, nori, and kombu. The seeds are gently roasted to remove moisture and to heat the oil within the seeds releasing the delicious nutty flavor of sesame. The roasted seeds, our finest sea salt, and sea vegetable powders are then mixed together and slowly ground in a specially designed grinder. Each batch is tested for moisture content and shelf life before packing in convenient shaker bottles. Allergen notice: This product may contain trace amounts of crustacean shellfish in the dulse.

Gomasio is a traditional Japanese condiment sprinkled on food in place of table salt that has been used for centuries. Unlike in the West, they have never had the tradition of sprinkling raw salt on food. Instead they have prepared special condiments for use at the table to enhance and balance the flavor and nutrients of foods. It was commonly believed that roasted, ground salt was easier to assimilate than raw or uncooked salt. When hot sesame seeds are combined and ground with salt the oil in the seeds coats and dissolves the salt, spreading its flavor throughout the condiment. So you experience more flavor while consuming less salt. In the 1960's gomasio was popularized throughout Europe and the Americas by George Ohsawa.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is the oldest known herbaceous plant grown for its seeds. It is believed to have originated in Africa, where it is known as 'benniseed' and 'sim-sim'. Used throughout prehistory, the seeds were an important food of the early Mediterranean and Eastern civilizations and this continues today. Greek and Turkish soldiers carried the seeds at all times in their rations. The Egyptians milled sesame seeds to make a flour used in bread and other dishes. The Romans ground them into paste to spread on bread. The expression 'open sesame' signifies an entrance into splendor and abundance.

Our salt comes from the environmentally protected, historic salt marshes of Algarve, Portugal, that have supplied the entire known world with sea salt since ancient times.

Seaweed Gomasio (Sesame Salt) is delicious on cooked whole grains and pasta, and sprinkled over salads and cooked vegetables. Delicious on popcorn.
