Popcorn, Yellow, Organic

20 oz / 566 g

A certified organic, carefully selected variety of yellow popcorn with superior popping qualities—large, fluffy tender morsels, bursting with pure corn flavor. Did you know non-organic popcorn is on the FDA’s list of top ten foods most contaminated with toxic pesticides and chemicals? Organic Popping Corn is a healthier choice for you and the environment. The resealable package helps retain moisture. Low calorie, rich in dietary fiber, and a source of good complex carbohydrate nourishment.

Our popcorn is certified organically grown in vital soil, on family owned farms by those committed to a clean environment and the safest, most nourishing food. Popcorn’s unique ability to pop lies in the fact that the kernels contain a certain amount of water that is stored in the soft starchy endosperm inside the hard outer shell or ‘pericarp’ of the kernel. When the corn is heated the water expands creating pressure within the kernel. Eventually the casing cracks and the kernels explode and pop allowing the water to escape as steam and turning the kernels inside out. Organic Popcorn comes in a resealable package to better retain moisture. After resealing the package, refrigerate to further ensure freshness.

Most people think that all popcorn is a healthy snack, but conventional, non-organic popcorn is on the FDA’s 1999, Total Diet Study that lists the top ten foods most contaminated with pesticides and chemicals. Non-organic popcorn is listed as containing toxic chlordane, dieldrin, and toxaphene. Organic Popping Corn is a healthier choice for you, yours, and the environment—the way nature intended without artificial additives, preservatives, pesticides, herbicides, fumigants or other chemicals. It is rich in dietary fiber, providing roughage the body needs in the daily diet. It is a healthy low calorie snack. It contains energy producing complex carbohydrates that do not effect blood sugar levels. It’s satisfying and doesn’t spoil ones appetite—an ideal snack food. Our popcorn is a source of potassium, protein and iron.

Archaeologists uncovered proof that most Native American Indian tribes enjoyed popcorn even before the birth of Christ. Excavations in the Bat Cave of west central New Mexico discovered popcorn ears that are nearly 5,600 years old. Excavations in tombs of Peru uncovered 1,000 year old popcorn that was so well preserved that it still pops. Pottery popcorn poppers have been discovered dating back to pre-Inca cultures in Peru. Columbus discovered the Indians of the West Indies using popcorn for decorations as well as food. Cortez found the Aztecs in Mexico wearing popcorn necklaces and headdresses. Before the exploration of the Great Lakes region the Iroquois popped corn in pottery crocks over heated sand. To this day popcorn is still considered one of America’s favorite, most pleasurable snack foods.

Making popcorn inspires creativity, try making it different ways. Pop without oil or use different oils such as Virgin Coconut Oil, Virgin Palm Oil, Organic Sesame Oil, or Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It can be served plain or lightly seasoned with Himalayan Salt.
